- Agent needed: it only reads manuscripts sent by a literary agent.
Submit with confidence
Four checks before you send anything to a publisher, whichever list you use.
Check it on their own site
Guidelines change. Read the publisher's own submissions page on the day you send.
Never pay to be published
A traditional publisher pays you. If a company asks for money, it is a paid service.
Send exactly what they ask
Query, proposal or sample chapters: follow the format and word count to the letter.
Track every submission
Note the date, the reply time and whether no reply means no before you follow up.
Health and wellness publishers range from clinical self-help houses to spiritual and mind-body presses, and most read proposals from experts without an agent. We list 24 health book publishers, and 21 of them are open to submissions today. Every listing was checked on the publisher's own site and shows what to send and how long a reply takes. Use the filters to narrow by country or by whether a house is reading now. Each profile also shows the date we last checked the publisher's own page, so you can see how current the rules are.
Health book publishers that read unagented proposals
Health book publishers usually buy on a proposal and on the author’s expertise. New Harbinger reads psychology and health self-help proposals, mostly from therapists and helping professionals. Human Kinetics reads sport, fitness and health inquiries, and Hay House reads positive self-help and health ideas through an online form.
Health and wellness publishers for mind and body
Health and wellness publishers often blend health with spirituality. Sounds True publishes mind-body health and spiritually oriented self-help, and Llewellyn publishes practical books on alternative health, meditation and yoga. Ryland Peters & Small publishes mindfulness and health among its illustrated lifestyle books.
Credentials and platform
Editors want to know why readers should trust you. New Harbinger notes that most of its authors are therapists, and Human Kinetics asks for qualifications and media reach. Show your training, your work with clients or patients and the audience you already reach.
What to send
Expect to send a proposal with a summary, a table of contents, your credentials, comparable titles and sample chapters. Some houses want an inquiry first, and Square One reads proposals by post. Read each profile and send exactly what it asks for.
How we check these listings
Every publisher on this page was checked on its own website, and we review each listing every month. We list only traditional publishers, which pay authors and do not charge them to publish. If a house adds fees, packages or a paid route, we say so on its profile or leave it out of the directory.
Health book publishers for professionals
Some health book publishers write for practitioners as well as general readers. New Harbinger publishes books for mental health professionals, Human Kinetics publishes for coaches, trainers and fitness professionals, and Crown House publishes education, coaching and therapy titles. If your audience is professional, say so clearly in your proposal.
