About Our Sunday Visitor

Our Sunday Visitor is open to query letters from authors without an agent through its Submittable portal. Editors ask for the manuscript and proposal if the topic fits, and they aim to reply within 8 to 10 weeks. It does not accept simultaneous submissions. Adult books cannot be fiction or poetry; OSV Kids books must be overtly Catholic.

Our Sunday Visitor is a Catholic publisher in Huntington, Indiana, founded in 1912. OSV Books publishes adult and family titles on spiritual growth, prayer, Scripture, the liturgical year, history and biography, faith and culture, evangelization and parish ministry. OSV Kids publishes board books, picture books, chapter books, middle grade and tween titles.

Every submission starts with a query letter through OSV’s own Submittable portal, and editors request the full manuscript and proposal only if the idea fits. Children’s books must be overtly Catholic rather than generically Christian, and OSV hires illustrators itself, so writers do not need to supply art.

Questions about Our Sunday Visitor

Does Our Sunday Visitor accept unsolicited submissions?

Yes. Our Sunday Visitor reads query letters from authors without an agent through its Submittable portal. Start with the query only; if the topic fits its list, editors ask for the manuscript and proposal. For children's books, add OSV Kids to the subject line so the query reaches the right team.

What are OSV Kids word counts?

OSV Kids sets word counts by age: board books up to 300 words, picture books 600 to 1,000, short chapter books 6,000 to 10,000, middle grade up to 30,000 and tween books up to 50,000. Every children's book must be overtly Catholic, and OSV supplies the illustrator.

Can I send my book to other publishers at the same time?

Not if you submit to Our Sunday Visitor. OSV states that it does not accept simultaneous submissions, so wait for its answer before querying other publishers. It aims to respond within 8 to 10 weeks of receiving your query letter, which keeps the wait reasonably short.
