What do Open, Closed and Agent needed mean?
  • Open now: the publisher's own site says it is reading submissions today, in at least one genre listed.
  • Closed: not reading new submissions right now. We show the reopening date when the publisher gives one.
  • Agent needed: it only reads manuscripts sent by a literary agent.

Submit with confidence

Four checks before you send anything to a publisher, whichever list you use.

Check it on their own site

Guidelines change. Read the publisher's own submissions page on the day you send.

Never pay to be published

A traditional publisher pays you. If a company asks for money, it is a paid service.

Send exactly what they ask

Query, proposal or sample chapters: follow the format and word count to the letter.

Track every submission

Note the date, the reply time and whether no reply means no before you follow up.

These Christian book publishers were each checked on their own websites in October 2026. Every one is a traditional publisher that pays authors, so no paid packages and no vanity presses. Some Christian book publishing companies read proposals straight from authors, while others take work only through literary agents. Each card shows which, along with what to send and how long the publishing house takes to reply. Filter by genre, readers or agent rule to find the right fit for your book.

Christian publishers that accept unsolicited manuscripts

26 of the 47 Christian publishers on this page read submissions sent by authors without an agent. An unsolicited manuscript is one the publisher did not ask for. Denominational houses are often the most open. A Lutheran publishing house such as Concordia Publishing House, Northwestern Publishing House or Augsburg Fortress publishes clear guidelines for authors, and so does Pentecostal Publishing House.

Most of these houses expect your book to agree with their church’s teaching. Read each profile’s “What they are looking for” section before you send, and check whether the publisher asks for a statement of faith.

Christian publishing companies that need an agent

Several of the largest Christian publishing companies read only agented work. B&H Publishing, Tyndale House Publishers and Bethany House take proposals through literary agents, and Harvest House points writers to agents and conferences. Zondervan reads unagented proposals only for Zondervan Academic.

Christian writers conferences are the other common route in. Editors and agents meet writers there, and some publishers on this page say they find new authors that way.

What is a Christian publishing house?

A Christian publishing house is a traditional publisher that publishes books from a Christian point of view: Bible studies, devotionals, Christian living, theology, fiction and children’s books. Many belong to a church or denomination, and many publish Bibles too. Large Bible publishing companies such as B&H (Holman Bible Publishers), Tyndale and Zondervan also publish books, mostly through agents.

This list of Christian publishing companies shows each house’s beliefs, what it publishes and how it wants to hear from you, so you can match your book to the right one.

Catholic book publishing companies

We have not listed a Catholic book publishing company yet. Our first round covers Protestant, evangelical and denominational houses. Catholic publishing companies are next on our research list, and they will appear here and under the Catholic filter once each one is checked on its own website.

How to submit a Christian book to a publisher

  1. Check the publisher is open and takes your kind of book. Use the filters, then read the profile.
  2. Read its own guidelines and any statement of faith. The official page is linked on each profile.
  3. Prepare exactly what it asks for. Many Christian publishers want a full proposal with sample chapters, not a finished manuscript.
  4. Send it and note the date. Wait for the stated reply time before you follow up.

New to proposals? Our book proposal guide covers each part.

Do Christian publishers pay authors?

Yes. Every Christian publisher on this page is a traditional publisher, so it pays you and you do not pay it. Some state their terms. For example, Pentecostal Publishing House pays all publishing costs and a 10 percent royalty. Many others do not publish their terms online, and the profile says “not stated” when that is the case.

Some companies that call themselves Christian publishers charge authors to publish, or describe themselves as hybrid. They are paid services, so they are not on this list. Our guide to vanity presses shows the warning signs to check before you sign anything.

Rather not wait? We'll publish it with you.

Self-publish your Christian book with one project manager and matched specialists. 100% of your royalties and rights stay yours.

  1. Tell us about your book

    Genre, length, goals and timing.

  2. Get a written quote

Scope and price agreed before any work starts.

  3. Publish in your name

Your accounts, your ISBN, your royalties.

Questions authors ask

Answers use the live data on this page.

Which Christian publishers accept unsolicited manuscripts?

Several Christian publishers accept unsolicited manuscripts or proposals, including Crossway, Concordia Publishing House, Northwestern Publishing House, Pentecostal Publishing House, Plough and Abingdon Press. Use the No agent needed filter on this page for the current list, and read each publisher's own guidelines before you send.

Who is the best Christian publisher for new authors?

The best Christian publisher for a new author is one that publishes your kind of book, is open now and reads work without an agent. Crossway, Concordia, Abingdon Press and Plough are good starting points. Check that your book fits each house's beliefs and list before you submit.

Do Christian book publishers need a literary agent?

Some do and some do not. Large Christian houses such as B&H, Tyndale and Bethany House read proposals only through literary agents. Many denominational and independent Christian publishers read proposals sent directly by authors. Each card on this page shows the rule.

Do Christian publishers pay an advance?

Some Christian publishers pay an advance and royalties, and some pay royalties only. Many do not state their terms online. Each profile shows what the publisher states. A traditional Christian publisher never charges you to publish your book. Ask about terms if you receive an offer.
