Replies can take up to six months.

Ignatius Press is a Catholic publisher based in San Francisco, founded in 1978. Its mission is to support the evangelizing, catechetical, liturgical and educational work of the Catholic Church, and it publishes books and films for academics, religious, priests, laity and children. Its catalog includes fiction and children’s titles, and series such as Ignatius Critical Editions and YOUCAT.

Ignatius reads submissions sent directly by authors at any time of year. The required route is a printed copy by post, double spaced, single sided and page numbered, with an emailed file as an optional extra. Questions about Ignatius Press

Does Ignatius Press accept unsolicited manuscripts?

Yes. Ignatius Press reads manuscripts and proposals from authors year round, with no agent needed. Mail a printed copy with a cover letter to its acquisitions office in San Francisco, and email a copy to acquisitions@ignatius.com if you can. A proposal should include a summary, a chapter-by-chapter overview and two full sample chapters.

How long does Ignatius Press take to respond?

Ignatius Press asks authors to allow up to six months for a response. It may request the full manuscript after reading a proposal, and it does not give specific feedback when it declines. Keep a record of your mailing date and avoid following up before the six months have passed.

Can I email my manuscript to Ignatius Press?

Only as an extra. Ignatius asks for a hard copy by post, double spaced, single sided and page numbered, with a cover letter. Emailing an electronic copy to acquisitions@ignatius.com is welcome in addition, but it does not replace the printed copy, so mail the package first.
