About Affirm Press

Affirm Press is a Melbourne publisher founded in 2010 and now part of Simon & Schuster Australia. Its general list covers literary and genre fiction from Australian authors or authors based in Australia, plus nonfiction on most subjects with a market. Its children’s and teen list includes picture and board books, junior and middle grade fiction, teen and YA fiction, nonfiction for ages 6 and up and illustrator folios.
The general list takes email submissions on the first Monday of each month, and the next date is 2 November 2026. You send one document with a pitch of up to 25 words, your bio, a synopsis and the first three chapters. Children’s and teen submissions open twice a year, but the dates on its page are out of date, so check before you send. Submitting is free. If you hear nothing within six months, assume the work is not a fit.

A good fit if
Affirm Press suits Australian fiction writers with an unpublished manuscript, nonfiction authors with a book that has a clear market and children's writers and illustrators.
Look elsewhere if
Look elsewhere if you write short stories, poetry or novellas, since Affirm does not accept these unsolicited. Fiction writers outside Australia should also look elsewhere.
Questions about Affirm Press
Does Affirm Press accept unsolicited manuscripts?
Yes, Affirm Press accepts unagented submissions on its general list on the first Monday of each month, and the next date is 2 November 2026. Fiction must come from Australian authors or authors based in Australia. Children's and teen work opens twice a year in separate windows. Affirm does not accept unsolicited short stories, poetry or novellas, and submitting costs nothing.
How do I submit to Affirm Press?
For the general list, email SS_Affirmpress-General_Submissions@simonandschuster.com.au on the first Monday of the month. Send one document with a pitch of up to 25 words, your bio and contact details with publication credits, a synopsis and the first three chapters. Nonfiction adds a chapter outline. Children's and teen work goes to a separate address during its window, and picture books go as full manuscripts.
How long does Affirm Press take to reply?
Affirm Press can take up to six months to reply. If you hear nothing within six months, assume the work is not a fit for its list. Affirm asks writers not to phone about submissions. It does not say whether it accepts work that is also with other publishers, so keep track of where you have sent your manuscript.
