About Lorraine
I am a passionate and extremely dedicated bookworm! I genuinely enjoy connecting with others and making a positive difference wherever I can. I have a deep love for reading and have been reading all my life, every single chance I get (which is daily). I have a strong work ethic and a natural curiosity that inspires me to embrace new experiences and continually learn. That is why I decided to get certified as a Copyeditor and Proofreader at SA Writers' College. I am emphatic, reliable, adaptable and dedicated, with a positive attitude and a willingness to take on new challenges. I take pride in producing high-quality work and bringing enthusiasm, commitment and care to everything I do. My certificate is recent (April 2026), but I started editing and proofreading agendas and minutes of meetings in 2008 when I started working at Alexander Forbes. I knew then what I wanted to do for the rest of my life! I read ARC's from Booksprout and Booksirens and give my input to the authors (I love finding little mistakes that everyone misses!). My genre is non-fiction (anything from romance, shifters, fantasy, erotica, monsters, thrillers...you name it, I will read it), but I also edit theses and dissertations. Copyediting
CORE DUTIES: Correcting errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation & syntax. Enforcing style guides & maintaining consistent capitalization, hyphenation & numbers. Improving readability, cutting redundancy and tightening sentences. Verify basic facts and leave queries for the author when logic or meaning is unclear.
Proofreading
I look closely at the physical layout. I hunt for missed typos, misspelled words, incorrect punctuation or grammatical slips. I check that formatting choices remain identical throughout the entire document. I check that page numbers, headers and footers, line breaks, hyphenations etc. are correct and ensure the text strictly follows the rules of a specific style guide requested by the client.
