- Closed: not reading new submissions right now. We show the reopening date when the publisher gives one.
- Agent needed: it only reads manuscripts sent by a literary agent.
Submit with confidence
Four checks before you send anything to a publisher, whichever list you use.
Check it on their own site
Guidelines change. Read the publisher's own submissions page on the day you send.
Never pay to be published
A traditional publisher pays you. If a company asks for money, it is a paid service.
Send exactly what they ask
Query, proposal or sample chapters: follow the format and word count to the letter.
Track every submission
Note the date, the reply time and whether no reply means no before you follow up.
Finding poetry publishers that read full collections without a fee takes care, so we checked each one on its own site. We list 56 poetry book publishers, and 31 of them are open to submissions today. Every listing shows whether the press reads unagented work, when its windows open and what to send. Many poetry presses read only in short windows or through prizes, so check each profile before you prepare your manuscript and note any fee or prize rules that apply.
How poetry book publishers read collections
Poetry book publishers work differently from novel publishers. Most read full collections only in short windows, through prizes, or from poets with a record of magazine publication. Bloodaxe Books, for example, expects poems in reputable literary magazines or a small-press pamphlet before you submit a collection, and Nine Arches Press asks for a publication record too.
Poetry publishers accepting submissions now
Nine Arches Press is reading full collections through Submittable until midnight GMT on 31 October 2026, with no fee. Jonathan Cape accepts poetry directly by post, even though its prose list needs an agent. Seren reads poetry during call-outs, and Coffee House Press reads poetry when it reopens, so watch both profiles.
Poetry prizes and entry fees
Some poetry publishing companies take new collections mainly through prizes. Graywolf Press publishes winners of three partner prizes, and one of them, the Pegasus Poetry Book Prize, is free to enter. Milkweed Editions works with the National Poetry Series and the Jake Adam York Prize, which charge $35 and $25. We list these presses because they do not charge you to publish, but we state every fee so you can choose.
Poem publishers and single poems
If you have single poems rather than a full book, poem publishers are usually literary magazines, not book presses. Several houses here run their own magazines, such as Nine Arches Press with Under the Radar. Publishing in magazines first also builds the track record many poetry book publishers ask for.
Poetry book publishers accepting submissions 2026
Windows open and close through the year, so a press that is closed today may reopen soon. Every profile on this page shows the latest status we found on the publisher’s own site, and we recheck each listing monthly.
How we check these listings
Every publisher on this page was checked on its own website, and we review each listing every month. We list only traditional publishers, which pay authors and do not charge them to publish. If a house adds fees, packages or a paid route, we say so on its profile or leave it out of the directory.

Questions authors ask
Answers use the live data on this page.
Do poetry publishers charge submission fees?
Some do, especially through contests. On this page, Nine Arches Press says it does not charge for submissions, and Graywolf charges nothing itself. Milkweed's partner prizes charge $35 and $25. We do not list presses whose only route is a reading fee, and we state any prize fee on each profile.
Which poetry publishers accept unagented collections?
Poetry presses rarely need agents. Nine Arches Press reads full collections directly during its windows, Jonathan Cape's poetry list can be approached by post, and Seren reads UK poets during call-outs. Bloodaxe is closed until its backlog clears. Each profile shows what to send and when.
Do I need to be published in magazines before submitting a collection?
Often, yes. Bloodaxe expects a track record in reputable literary magazines or a small-press pamphlet, and Nine Arches Press also asks for previous publications. Publishing single poems in magazines first shows editors your work has an audience and makes a collection easier to place.
